New P9 palletising concept

I.CONTEXT AND BASIS FOR REFLECTION

Working on the basis of its wide range of palletising solutions by transfer of single cases or rows (P6, P7 and P8 range), Cermex wished to completely review and globalise the design of its palletisers in order to meet the following criteria:

• Easy management of the different case infeed heights
• Reduction of the accumulation conveyor length between the case packer and the palletiser
• Extrapolation of the concept for multipalletisation
• Highly-developed machine ergonomics and design.

II.CHOSEN SOLUTION

2.1. General Principle
The main part of the concept is the supporting structure, made up of parallel tubes and a plate supporting the mast guiding rails (movement along X axis).
On this structure, a beam ensures the movements along the y and z axes as well as a possible rotation q (thêta) of the head supporting the case gripping tooling. Consequently, the machine frame is considerably lighter as it only supports the safety guards.

2.2. Other characteristics

• The x axis is repositioned on the small side of the pallet in order to shorten the stroke between gripping the case and positioning it on the pallet. The dimension corresponding to the longest side of the pallet can therefore be used to stock cases inside the palletising unit in order to reduce the conveyor length between the case packer and the palletiser.
• Multi-palletisation is possible by extending the beam (duplication of the concept).
• Servo motors.
• The driven roller case conveyor at the machine infeed is inclined so that the products are positioned against the adjustable datum guide. This principle improves gripping and does away with the guide on the opposite side in order to improve operator access and speed up size changeovers.
• Sliding safety guard doors.

III.TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

• Payload: up to 45kg with tooling
• Speed: up to 11 cycles/min depending on the application
