New Patented SW Side Loading case packer for both RSC and wrap-around blanks
I – CONTEXT AND REASONS BEHIND THIS DEVELOPMENT
In recent months, the actors in the supply chain have been rethinking their secondary packaging.
Ever-increasing requirements for versatility and diversity in secondary packaging (shelf-ready and/or transit packaging) and the associated distribution networks (major retail outlets and discount supermarkets; production for the domestic market as well as abroad) have led Cermex to redesign 2 existing case packers:
- SB side-loading case packer for RSC
- WB/WT side-loading case packers for wrap around blanks
With continuous demand for machines that are compact, ergonomic/accessible, cost effective, there is a need for breakthrough innovation in the field of combined case packing (forming, loading, sealing on the same machine).
II – GENERAL CONCEPT OF THIS INNOVATION
With the new range of Cermex SW case packers, the market now has an industrial undifferentiated mechanical solution for automating cardboard packaging, whether it be RSC or wrap around blanks!
The basis of the module handling the secondary packaging is common throughout the case transfer phase: from the magazine, extraction/forming, loading up to sealing (by hot-melt glue or adhesive tape depending on the application).
III – DETAILS OF THE NEW DEVELOPMENTS
3.1 General functionalities:
- Stainless steel frame and numerous hygiene improvements,
- Very compact and uniform unit,
- Ability, within the same footprint, to seal cases with glue or tape,
- For requirements in terms of speed and smoothness, the loading operation can be carried out by a « Pick and Pack » gripper:
o Mechanic,
o Robotic,
o 2-axis, 3-axis, 6 axis or Scara.
- Case tipper at the machine outfeed.
- Absence of product retention zones so that products fall on the ground at the infeed, collation or loading stations due to sloping plates
- Improved operator access to the case handling area, in particular the loading station
- Low-level case magazine to facilitate reloading by the operator (loading height less than 850mm=3ft)
- Size changeover times optimized because of centralized setting points and the integration of changeover assistance via IVO digital counters (as an option)
- Integration of a labeller/ink jet coder, whatever the machine configuration, within the same footprint
- Optional control of products at the infeed by integrated vision system
- Remote maintenance kit

- Patented extraction/forming system
- Speed up to 15 cases/min depending on products and type of packaging
- Total footprint of 4m²=43sqft (2m²=22sqft for the case handling part)
