GEOPAK AND FRIZZPACK, 2 new types of packaging – designed, patented and mechanized by CERMEX

It is by associating folding carton and film that Cermex is offering 2 new packaging ideas for refrigerated storage and for ease of opening/access to the products.










Always on the lookout for solutions that meet customers’ expectations in terms of opening, accessibility and stocking for their products (especially cans and bottles), and starting from the realization that opening a pack is not always easy (without forgetting that once the film is opened and removed, the products are again “loose” in the refrigerator), Cermex and its R&D team have focussed on this problem we all face daily.

The Fridgepack® packaging, which offers storage and dispensing of cans (for beer, soft drinks, etc.) in the refrigerator using a cardboard package, was the starting point for the research carried out.

This solution, which is very costly from a packaging point of view, had to be redone and maximized!!

The 2 Solutions

  • For bottles: Geopak
The idea is to associate a cover, placed over the neck of the bottles, with a film wrapping using a traditional shrinkwrapping and including a pre-cut punchline. In effect, the mere addition of this cardboard sheet (of optimum size) on the upper part serves to facilitate access to bottles from the side of the package. In short, you no longer have to tear open the whole pack to get at one bottle

  • For cans: Frizzpack
This approach is similar at the packaging level (associating cardboard and film) except that the cans, which are shorter, may be placed directly in the refrigerator with their secondary packaging. Since the metal cans are stored lying down in the cardboard/film packaging, the latter serves as a true can dispenser. As cans are removed, the packaging empties out but the drinks are always handy since the cans slide over each other and are visible through the transparent film.

In both cases, the cardboard sheet continues to be a strong Marketing support to transmit various types of messages (brand, special offer, etc.)

The upsides:

  • Reduction in packaging costs of 60 to 75% compared to the Fridgepack version,
  • Less waste,
  • Ease of storage and opening for the consumer,
  • Greater surface area for messages (better product facing, the opportunity to print on the cardboard AND the film surfaces),
  • Traditional mechanization already in hand.
